Post Class Reflection 1
Today's class started right on time and we were set to learn about 'Toulmin’s Model of argumentation'. Our classmates Aayam and Nirbhaya presented on the same topic. Their presentation was pretty good and the way they explained was applaudable.
I learnt that the Toulmin Model is a method or tool for analyzing arguments. In Toulmin’s model, every argument has six parts: the claim, the ground, the warrant, the backing, the qualifier and the rebuttal. The claim presents the main argument. The grounds support the claim by presenting facts and evidence. The warrant links the ground to the claim. After the warrant, there’s backing, Backing provides support for the warrant. The support is done by giving examples. All of our arguments might not be true in all circumstances. So, the qualifier shows when a claim may not be true. Likewise, arguing on a particular subject without accounting opposing views is not a good practice. So, the rebuttal is an acknowledgement of the opposing view of the situation which is necessarily valid.
After giving feedback to the presentation and after clarifying our questions, the teacher showed us the movie which he was watching. It was titled “PadMan” which is about innovation. I was impressed with how the teacher gave us a valuable lesson from the film. This certainly made the class quite informative and interesting.
